Concrete block is one of the wall materials widely used in construction because it is relatively easy to produce, economical, and practical to install. The increasing demand for concrete blocks leads to higher consumption of sand as fine aggregate. Meanwhile, glass waste is an inorganic waste that is difficult to decompose naturally and may cause environmental pollution if not properly managed. This article aims to examine the utilization of glass waste as a substitute for fine aggregate in concrete blocks based on a literature review. The method used is qualitative with a Literature review approach through content analysis of relevant previous studies. The results show that glass waste has potential as a partial substitute for fine aggregate due to its silica content, hard texture, and particle size that can be adjusted to resemble sand. Several studies indicate that the use of glass waste in certain proportions can produce compressive strength that meets the design requirement and, in some cases, improves compressive strength. However, excessive use of glass waste may reduce concrete quality due to its smooth surface, non-absorptive behavior, and weak bonding with cement paste. Therefore, glass waste can be utilized as an environmentally friendly alternative material in concrete blocks, provided that the optimum proportion is considered and applicable construction material standards are followed.
