Drinking Water Quality at Refill Drinking Water Depots (DAMIU) in Malang City

Abstract
The availability of safe and drinkable water is a crucial factor in public health. Refill drinking water (AMIU) from Refill Drinking Water Depots (DAMIU) is commonly chosen by the community due to its affordability and accessibility. However, the quality of water from DAMIU is still under scrutiny. This study aims to analyze the drinking water quality from 10 DAMIU units in Malang City based on physical, chemical, and biological parameters. A quantitative descriptive case study method was employed with grab sampling and laboratory testing. The results were compared to the Indonesian Health Ministry Regulation No. 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010. The findings indicate that all samples met the chemical quality standards, and most complied with physical parameters such as odor, taste, temperature, and color. However, two depots exceeded the permissible limits for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and turbidity. In the biological test, four depots were contaminated with Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria, making the water unsafe for consumption. These results highlight the urgency of regular supervision and strict sanitation implementation in DAMIU operations. With proper management, DAMIU can serve as a safe and viable source of drinking water for the community.
