Abstract

The discussion in this thesis is about the role of the teacher in the application of student character education. This study is motivated by the importance of the role of teacher in character education for early childhood. Because in character education in schools the role of teachers is very important in order to achieve better character. This study aims to: 1) Find out how the teacher's role in implementation of character education in YIMI Gresik KB-TK schools. 2) Knowing the process of implementing character education. 3) Knowing the supporting factors and obstacles in the implementation of character education in YIMI KB-TK school.

This type of research is a qualitative research in which researchers directly conduct research in the field to obtain data and information. The subjects of this study were the principal and teachers. Data collection techniques used: observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation.

The results of this study explain the role of the teacher in the application of early childhood character education including: 1) The role of the teacher as a model teacher shows a good attitude in front of students. 2) The role of the teacher as a teacher mentor to accompany each activity. 3) The role of the teacher as a teacher trainer who patiently trains students who cannot. 4) The role of the teacher as a motivator, namely the teacher encouraging students. 5) The role of the teacher as an assessor is that the teacher must be able to assess students' abilities based on their abilities. In addition, in character education, there is a need for methods that must be carried out by teachers, including the habituation method, the exemplary method, the storytelling method, and the field trip method. In this case the role of teachers, parents, infrastructure and the environment can be a supporting factor so that character education can run well, while the inhibiting factors in this case are teachers with different characteristics of students, the family environment and a less supportive community environment
