Abstract

Corrosion is a major problem in the automotive industry, especially in ST 37 steel used in vehicle components such as motorcycle spokes. The humid tropical environment and exposure to rainwater accelerate the degradation of the material. This research aims to analyze the effect of rotational speed on the corrosion rate of ST 37 steel in rainwater media through a literature study approach. Data were collected from various sources of previous research that addressed the interaction between flow velocity, rainwater chemical properties, and microstructure characteristics of ST 37 steel. The results of the study showed that an increase in rotational speed can accelerate the corrosion rate due to erosion of the protective layer and increased electrochemical reactions on the metal surface. This study shows that dynamic speed and environmental conditions have a great influence on material durability. Therefore, surface protection and material selection should be considered in the design of automotive components to improve the service life and safety of vehicles.
