Abstract

Steel material is susceptible to corrosion, due to the metallic nature of the material. Corrosion occurs due to the release of ions in the material to the environment. The protection that is often used in steel materials is coating. Coating is a form of coating a material with another material that can withstand the corrosion rate. This research was conducted to determine resilience coating cat zinc rich primer base in salt solution sodium chloride with a concentration of 5%, with a thickness of 10, 20, 30, 40µm, and a steel ratio of SUP 9 without coating paint, with a temperature of 35°C. Where will the specimen be tested within 240 hours, while data is collected every 24 hours. From the results of this study it was found that in SUP 9 steel salt solution corrosion occurred within 48 hours. Meanwhile, SUP 9 steel which is in coating paint thickness 28-33µm, paint damage occurs within 168 hours. While the standard is 144 hours, the paint thickness for SUP 9 spring steel uses paint Zinc Rich Primer Base is 30µm.
