Life Struggle, Bubble Baby Disease, Motivation
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine Madeline Whittier's motivation in fighting bubble baby disease or SCID in the novel Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with data from the novel Everything, Everything. This research collects data based on narrative and conversational text in the novel that is relevant to the problems in this study. The results of this study show that Madeline's motivation to fight bubble baby disease has two factors, first because of Madeline's love for Olly, and second because of her high curiosity about the outside world. Which makes Madeline dare to take great risks in fighting her illness.
